Computer appears to have some sort of infection

My computer has been running very slow. It is so much slower than it was just three days ago that I’m sure something has gone wrong.
I was also prevented from downloading aswMBR.exe on this computer with the error Security Alert: “Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded.”
I also noticed that I had literally 20 copies of “dllhost.exe *32” running in my processes at one point.

Please help!

Since my original post I’ve also started intermittently having my Wireless Network say that I have no internet connection on my network.
At first I thought that was my router’s problem, but my other computer is not doing this.

Hi sorry you were missed.

First could you uninstall Spybot as it will interfere with my fix

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

EmptyTemp:
CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Could you download the latest FRST and make another scan for me

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

[*]Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Select additions at the bottom
[*]Press Scan button.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/frst.JPG

[*]It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
[*]Please attach both logs generated.

In order:
[ol]- Uninstalled Spybot

  • Updated FRST
  • Ran the Fix
  • Restarted Computer
  • Ran FRST Scan[/ol]

Okay, what, if anything, should I do next?

That looks better, how is the computer now ? Any problems ?

The computer is back to full speed, and I haven’t lost my wireless connection yet, but it is still giving me that security message when I attempt to download anything.

Which browser is this in ?

IE11

EDIT: This is not happening in Chrome.

Could you export your bookmarks from IE11 to your desktop http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/86795-internet-explorer-import-export-favorites.html

Then go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced tab
On the bottom right click Reset
Restart IE and try a download

That appears to have done it.
There are no apparent residual effects remaining.

I think I’m cured :).

Thanks for all the help, I don’t know what I would have done without you.

EDIT: I almost forgot, can I re-install Spybot now?

Certainly you can re-install if you wish

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware
