Hi I need help to uninstall avast on my windowsXP.
I installed the free avast but i dont think my other av uninstalled correctly.
I can get passed the blue screen but on the desktop the cursor is continuously an egg timer.
I can’t get into start and control panel to uninstall anything.
Any help how to fix this?
Boot into safe mode and uninstall avast from there (it doesn’t run in safe mode). Hopefully you can access the control panel and add remove programs.
However, if you can’t, you can download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your Hard Drive (it has uninstall tools for both 5.x and 6.0.x).
What is your other AV ?

I originally had Eset.
Are you now able to get into control panel in normal mode ?
If so you could uninstall eset, reboot and reinstall avast.
If not there is also the ESET/NOD32 Uninstall Tool - http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2116 Make sure you choose the correct uninstaller for your ESET product and your OS (32bit or 64bit version), right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to your desktop.
