computer crashes after daily virus database update! help!

Just installed avast!5 a few weeks ago. After daily virus database update, computer makes loud uncontrollable noise that won’t stop unless I shutdown manually. Also computer freezes.
any suggestions?

Do you mean any virus definitions update?
Are you using a desktop or a notebook? Are the fans working properly?
