I just got a new desktop computer (HP) I downloaded from avast website the free antivirus program–on a program that shows the status of my computer it says I donot have an antivirus programs-is this normal because I didnt download it from a cd
what matters is that it’s installed. The info you get otherwise doesn’t mean that Avast won’t run. What does Windows security center say ? (again, it’s purely informational there too). Hum…one last question, after the download, you installed Avast didn’t you ? 
ok I looked back to the security status-guess what it shows avast is the antivirus and it is current-I dont know why yesterday it showed what it did. thanks-
You probably needed to reboot your system for this to show up.
