This Windows 7 suddenly crashed - black screen - recovery - then blue screen & shut down. This was accompanied by a ‘Raedon driver failure’ notice. Today I got a different error pop up reading ‘wermgr.exe error’ so I googled it and a page advised downloading a ‘Security Task Manager’ which I did. Then the computer went haywire and it would not activate the STM download. I then did a bootscan which didn’t flag anything up sinister but I did not know where to find the full Avast log file for the scan.
Oh, I found the short scan report - it says “no virus found”.
What on earth is going on then please? why the crashes & crazy behaviour? The tool bar at the bottom of the screen has also reverted to an early version of the Windows tool bar with a square ‘start’ button instead of the Windows 7 round one :-o
Check this C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\report\aswBoot.txt (Vista, Win7 or later OS location), I haven’t run a boot scan for some considerable time so I’m not 100% sure this is the same location and file name now.
If the bootscan didn’t reveal anything (it is interactive, in that if there is a detection, the user has to choose what to do), then I don’t believe there will be anything in the scan report.
Thanks, found something but I could not open it - ‘bootstat DAT file 18.01.2016’. Can’t attach it either, Avast Forum won’t accept it as an attachment.
