computer freeze during scan

Hi,

when I run the scan of my C drive, avast does a scan for almost 150000 files and when it gets to C:\WINDOWS|SNT Service Pack Uninstall$.…\Cabinet.1.CAB, the computer freezes.

This has happened many times. Is there a solution to this. I would appreciate it you would pls walk me through the solution in simple steps. I am not a computer savy person.

That is likely to be an absolutely huge file, you could exclude it from scans assuming the name is correct, I would have thought it would be more like cabinet1.cab rather than having a double (period) . in the file name.
