I have noticed with this latest update of Avast! Free that when it is updating my computer freezes until I get the green popup boxes in the lower right of my screen letting me know it has updated. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there anything to be done about it? Perhaps downgrading to the version before this one?
Also, is there any way to disable the popups? I think maybe they are the reason my computer freezes up.
BTW…I have Windows Vista 32-bit and my Avast! version is 7.0.1456, definition version 120806-0. Any other info you need just ask.
I have the same problem, though I have version 7.0.1466
My pc periodically freezes up completely for several minutes, releasing only immediately after the popup notification of an update. The Avast icon is not always spinning during these freezes, but the freezing ceases immediately after an automatic update. It’s very frustrating. Is there a way to prevent this or is this just what Avast does when it updates it’s tables? (I don’t recall having this problem with previous versions)
Thanks for the reply Asyn.
Avast Free, Windows XP Pro, 32bit. SP3, Firefox 15.0.1
I’ve been using Avast for about two years - didn’t get the same problem with previous versions.
Other security software running in background is Zemana Antilogger and PC Tools Firewall.
Avast has all permissions.
AV prior to Avast was AVG, but that was quite some time ago.
I think probably so, as it always occurs shortly after boot up when Avast must do an auto check for ‘engine & virus’ updates. I’m not sure how often Avast ‘calls home’ to check for updates but the freezes seem to occur always after booting up. I’m not usually on the computer continuously.
Made the setting change , rebooted and so far no freeze.
Guess the final test will be tomorrow when I boot up for the day.
Thanks, appreciate the help.
