Ever since the last avast update, the computer has been freezing up on startup and takes forever to load the desktop. It stops happening if avast is turned off for a bit. Could this be caused by a conflict with windows defender or another app running in the background? Anyone else facing this??
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Microsoft should automatically disable Defended if you install another 3rd party antivirus, which would include Avast.
Check the Windows Security > Virus and Threat Protection and ensure Defender is in fact disabled.
Unfortunately completely disabling Avast doesn’t help in finding the true cause.
Depending on your Avast Settings > Protection > Smart Scan could be doing checks on your system.
Hi. Could it be that smart scan or something in avast is kicking in right at startup and making things freeze up?
Avast has an option under Troubleshooting to delay loading until after other services have started. You could try that too see if it makes a difference.
Did turning on that load after other services fix the freezing for you?
My PC isn’t affected.
Why do you think I suggested you check these settings ?
Sorry, but it’s fine though
Yes you are correct. I get the same situation from time to time. She needs to check her reply config. Settings.
@Emile-Kim If you have mechanical HDD not SSD startup can take time, as now more apps seem to have new version checkers, content synchronisation, etc that run at startup.
You could open Task Manager>Startup tab to discover what tasks are scheduled to run at start-up. Check if there is anything unexpected or not needed i.e. left over from disused apps. There will be listed “Avast Launch Component” that should be there.
I wonder if something went amiss when last update was installed. You can try Repair of Avast via
Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting>scroll down to [REPAIR APP]
See if that helps.
