Computer Problems (Non-related to Avast!)

I have several computer problems that appear to need fixing - but I am unsure of the fix.

Firstly, when I download Torrent files my computer lags - not just the internet but any programs I have currently running such as simply typing messages on MSN/Trillian, or playing music, will lag extremely badly. I have tried to limit the upload and download rate to see if that helps, but it does not. Currently, the program I am using to download Torrents is BitComet, but this problem still exists with other programs such as BitTorrent (Original) and BitTornado. I am open to trying other Torrent programs (no spyware bundles though).

Secondly, when I first turn on the computer the hard drive is not actually detected - it says there is no hard disk and I should insert a system disk and then hit enter. I restart the computer and windows loads normally. This problem occurred after my power supply previously died, and I have no figured out a fix.

Lastly, I have another hard drive that when connected to the computer causes windows to load forever - at the screen when you first boot up and it displays “Windows XP” and has the blue light flashing at the bottom (It’s a terrible description - sorry), it never goes beyond this screen. Currently, the hard drive is disconnected and not in use, but I would like to use it. This problem also occurred after my hard drive died.

Thank you for any support.

Lower the priority of the torrent application should solve the slowdown.

For the orther problems, have a tech look at it.
Could be a dying motherboard.

Could be a dying motherboard.
I was worried about that - since it did happen before. Should I save the money from the tech and just simply buy a new one?

Could do that, but there can be more components had a push by the broken psu. So it is no guarenty that replacing the board will solve all problems. Although it is likely that it does.

Try Azureus it’s the best bittorrent client! ;D

mmm what is bittorrent?
