Computer Speed

I am very pleased with AVAST and continually recommend it to family and friends.
But I have a question .To what extent does AVAST affect computer speed
( in particular going on line after a recycle which sometimes takes 15 seconds to 90 seconds after the compter has completely recycled). I am running xp,cable and clocking at a “gig”).

Any comments or thoughts would be welcomed.

              Thanks,

after a recycle
You mean after (re)booting?

About what speed are you talking?
The time it takes to boot a system or the speed when the system is running?

Both are already explained in many other threads.

Yes it takes some seconds till avast is active it’s not a problem for me after the “re"boots"up”.
Also here.
I think it’s normal.

Thanks for the replies.

What I mean’t was after the system was “rebooted” and seems to have settled down.
It’s not a major problem but I was curious as to what role AVAST plays in the speed and why.

Robert, probably the lack of time on booting is due to avast scanning the processes and loading…
You can change the impact on performance tweaking your avast installation: disabling un-necessary providers (for you), using Startup Delayer to control the order of programs on boot, etc.

Thanks to all for your comments.
