my computer started saying that i have no firewall turned on, but i know that i have comodo… i wonder why it would say there is nothing
thats odd cuz i never turned it off
I don’t recall what your OS is though the image looks like XP, but the windows security center is at times very flaky to say the least.
If the firewall is running try this:
Windows XP SP2, SP3 Start, Run, type cmd and click OK from the command prompt type ‘rundll32 wbemupgd, RepairWMISetup’ without the quotes and enter.
If that works reboot and see if the WSC reports the firewall ON.
If not, try this:
* Click Start, Run and type CMD.EXE
- Type this command and press Enter:
net stop wscsvc
net stop winmgmt
Using Windows Explorer, rename the folder %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository. (For example, %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository_bad.). %windir% represents the path to the Windows directory, which is typically C:\Windows.
Switch to Command Prompt window, and type the following and press ENTER after each line:
net start winmgmt
net start wscsvcEXIT
Reboot
Woo hoo!
this said i was missing a file: rundll32 wbemupgd, RepairWMISetup
BUT DOING THIS WORKED
net stop wscsvc
welll i didn’t reboot yet, but atleast it stopped the error message
oops i didn’t do any of these steps yet
i hope my comp is safe before i’m ready to reboot, running a MBAM scan currently
"net stop winmgmt

how do i rename that folder?
thanks
The doing this stops the WSC, so no reporting, but it doesn’t put your system at risk. You have to read the instructions and take them carefully a step at a time.
Easy really, as the instruction you quoted said use windows explorer, navigate the the wbem folder and change the sub-folder name Repository to Repository_bad (right click on the folder and select rename).
you’re right it’s not difficult… i found the repository folder and it is not wanting me to rename it
okay i tried again in the order you gave and it worked!!! coool
thanks
so if that happened again, just rename that folder something else i guess
Hopefully, it won’t happen again and as you found it isn’t just simply renaming the folder, as you have to first stop the services or you get the protection as the wbem is in use and that would protect the folder.
