Hello,
I’m having trouble with my work laptop. Last week it started opening up tabs on it’s own in internet explorer. So I updated spybot search and destroy. Ran it, found some malware, and deleted. It still did it. So I downloaded avg. Ran it and it didn’t find anything. Found out avast is considered the best so I downloaded it. Ran it and found 2 viruses. Delete. The system seemed to be back to normal.
Monday I noticed the computer took a very long time to start. Ran avast, found a virus and I deleted it. Unfortunately I’m at home and cannot tell you the name of the virus. I’ve done that several times now. Now, I cannot really even start my computer without being in safe mode.
Now I realize several issues I have. I have avg and avast both on my computer so avg is gone in the morning.
For some reason I cannot run a bootscan. I schedule it and when I click to another screen and then back, it’s not scheduled. I have a feeling that would find it.
When I do try to start it out of safe mode, it seems the harddrive is running at 100% and it’s very sluggish. Sometimes I can get past the logon screen and to the desktop. Then, it generally locks up.
Sorry I’m a newbie, without much knowledge about this stuff.
I am running windows xp sp2, avast free 6.0, on a dell inspiron laptop.
I cannot get any detailed info until the morning when I return to work.
Okay, so first thing in the morning, I’m going to uninstall AVG and Spybot. I am pretty ignorant with computers so, Can I do that in safe mode?
Is there anyway to manually force a bootscan? I’ve tried by scheduling on a restart and that doesn’t work.
Is it possible in safe mode with networking for me to go online and download the malwarebytes software?
Anything else I should do/try?
Thanks
