Computer will not boot up after Avast boot scan

I have a computer with Windows XP which showed signs of possible virus infection (IE redirecting to other sites on a search, slow internet and computer, etc.) The computer had outdated definitions from another antivirus program. So I uninstalled that antivirus program and installed Avast (my favorite). Avast automatically started identifying issues - trojans. I decided to do a boot time scan which alerted me that there were several trojan infections in explorer.exe, winlogon.exe and the Java directory. Of course, the explorer.exe and winlogon.exe were unable to re repaired so I ignored those alerts on the boot time scan. When the scan finished, the computer proceeded to restart but is now in a loop of restarting. I tried safe mode and last known good configuration with the same result. I was able to get the error message which I’ve attached. It is a blue screen that reads: “STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.”

I’m now unable to do anything. Any idea what may have caused the STOP error being I ignored the explorer.exe and winlogon.exe virus issues during the boot scan??

Thank you for your help!

So you are unable to use your computer? If you can not boot into Windows, you don’ have very many options. I would get a rescue disc. Kaspersky makes a pretty good one and it is free. You just have to download the ISO file and burn it to a disc. You do need to update your definitions first and from my understanding you will need a hard-wired connection. This might be cause by malware on your system or you may have deleted an important system logon file.

The Kaspersky recue disc can be downloaded from here…

Hopefully that helps.
