Conflict between different forms of protection

I run Vista Home premium, which includes Windows Firewall. I also have Avast 4 which has been very effective in keeping nasties away.

Should I use Zone Alarm in addition, and what about a Spyware programme? I remember getting some email problems when I had Zone Alarm some time ago, these vanished when I deleted it.

Advice appreciated.

Hi Rodders,

ZA for me gave problems installing on Vista Home Premium, avast runs smoothly as does SAS and MBAM (non-resident) against spyware malware,

PC Tools firewall seems to be one of the few that works well with Vista.

You could also enable the outbound protection of the Vista firewall, but it isn’t very friendly, is rule based and you have to create the rules, check this out - Vista Firewall Control, check out this topic for some user friendly help for the Vista Firewall, Outbound protection, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=30234.0
