I have a problem with the conflict of Avast version 8.0.1482-3 and Office 2007 (and Office 2003 on second computer) - it is the problem with Word files saving. After turning off the “system files cover” disappear problem with Word files saving.
(Edit - it’s Windows xp)
Visualization what happens when you try to save word file 1-2-3 below (in polish):
5.) Uninstall Avast! normally through Control Panel > Programs & feature ( Vista, W7 ) or Add and remove programs ( XP ). Reboot. If you can not complete this step, continue with step # 6
6.) Even if you were able to uninstall Avast! in step # 5, it is important to run aswclear.exe in safe mode for any Avast! you may have had before,e.g. v.6 o v.7, and then for v. 8. Reboot into normal mode after uninstall.
NOTE: aswclear has the ability to make your system go into Safe Mode. Just run it in normal mode and follow instructions.
7.) Reinstall fresh copy of Avast! and reboot.
Be aware. Avast! will offer Chrome during installment. Remember to opt-out if you do not want it.
What happens with your Office Word issue ? Were you able to fix it ? How ?
Same Problem with word 2003 (XP SP3) and Avast 8 (free). Had to downgrade to Avast 7 (free) to resolve the issue. Since working with Avast 7 (free) without any problems.
You don’t have to downgrade to Avast 7.
Temporary solution of this problem:
1.Security>File system protection>Settings>Exclusions (I’m not sure what terms are used in english version of Avast 8 )
2.Enter exclusions:
R - V
W - empty
X - empty
for:
*.doc
*.ppt
*.xls
The solution to the problem of Avast’s conflict with Word seems to be to turn off checking on writes of Word documents
This is ridiculous why have an AV which you have to turn off? Might as well have a dog and bark yourself
Also saying it’s XP is like saying our AV software does not work with earlier versions
It was recommended to me to try the beta version. However this does not fix the problem.
I am still awaiting a positive reply on when it will be fixed.
Meanwhile continuing with Reads excluded from checks on Word documents
