Conflict with aol 9.1 conectivity service

:-\ I live with my grandfather and he likes AOL for some reason so its what I have to use. Anyway I like your free antivirus it does really well keeping a computer clean and I will always use this product. But I have a problem I hate the AOL software so I installed AOL 9.1 with connectivity service because it comes with a stand alone dialer so I don’t have to deal with the stupid AOL program. anyway when I installed it the avast on access scanner stopped working so I uninstalled avast and reinstalled it and still it didn’t work. so I uninstalled AOL and went back to 9.0 and it worked again but then I was back to using the old AOL browser to dial in again. I tried reinstalling windows and everything avast just will not work with AOL 9.1 with the connectivity service. >:( Is there any reason why there is a conflict with it? is there a fix for this conflict? Please help I do not want to have to switch to AVG because AVG isn’t as effective at keeping spyware off. But I refuse to use AOL 9.0 cause I like to just dial in without it.

If this is the quick response in help avast provides then I guess I will forget about buying the pro version.I guess I will just switch to AVG until I can buy mcafee coporate antivirus. I like for a company to respond quicker than 1 day, or at lest respond in 1 day, If I had a company my first priority would be to the consumer. That is very unprofessional so I feel I can’t trust a company that obviously does not care. I am also going to send this nonresponse to PC mag too.

Generally we can give help… but I’ve read your post yesterday, and can’t guess a solution… so, it’s hard to post.
AOL software has a lot of problems and incompatibilities, install more things than it should…
Without its antivirus, avast should work…
Hope the programmers could help.

Anybody that use AOHell deserves all the shite to use the Brit term that comes with it.

Switch to AVG and I look forward to you getting help in their forum.
Buahaha

I read your topic but I simply couldn’t contribute, I have never used AOHell or its propriatary software. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It has been more than a year since I used AOL, but the last version I used was 9.0 with the stand-alone dialer. I usually used just the dialer so I could avoid the annoying software, and had no conflicts with avast, although I believe I had to delete AOL from my firewall when I upgraded to 9.0 (so it would ask again whether to allow). Other than scanning the program, whether the entire AOL browser or just the dialer, avast had no effect on AOL when I was using it.

As far as I know, few of the avast users who frequent these forums are familiar with AOL, and those few might be more likely to see your post after the week end.

I am trying to remember where I found the option to install the dialer with AOL 9.0–possibly in the folder of extra junk AOL deposits on the desktop when it the program is installed.

Well if you would have read my post you would know I have no choice but to use aohell. And saying someone deserves something over there choice of software tells me a allot about you.

But anyway maybey I was a little hard on the techs. I apologize. I was just very aggravated. But I solved both problems I purchased mcafee corporate 8.7 it seems to work with AOL connectivity service it was a bit pricey but I don’t like my grandfather to go unprotected surfing and with his emails lord knows he has helped me out allot.

 Hi :

Perhaps your Question is “answered” in our “FAQs”, as follows !?

"Q: I use the ‘AOL browser’ for web browsing and reading emails via the ‘AOL’ Web mail. Does avast! Web Shield work with this program?
When I check the scanned count number on Web Shield configuration page, it always shows 0.

A:

Sorry, Web Shield cannot scan connections from AOL browser. It is however capable of protecting standard browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, …) used with the AOL dial-up or broadband services. "

Perhaps you could get your grandfather to “switch” from AOL by having him read the
many “complaints” Posted on the Forums at www.freedomlist.com !?
