Just spoke with my ISP which is localnet.com and get the Propel accelerator through them. When the accelerate email box is checked in Propel avast Internel Mail will not scan. Sent an email to Propel and they said I had to talk to ISP. ISP says I can either have faster mail or safer mail. Is it not possible to have both? I have avast 4.7.844 win xp sp2.
A number of other Propel accelerator users have reported the same problem.
Unfortunately the way that the Propel accelator takes control of your POP3 connections prevents avast from getting a chance to do so.
I suggest you check with your ISP about whether there is any antivirus scanning of your email. If it is already being scanned then you do not really need to have avast scan it again. If it is not being scanned by your ISP then you at least have the option of turning off the accelerate mail switch in Propel. Unless you receive a lot of very large emails then accelerating your email is unlikely to be doing a lot for you.
If you want to try something that may get Propel and avast to work together then in Thunderbird for your mail account:
Set the mail server as: localhost
Set the POP3 port as: 12110
Set the userid field: youruserid#your.real.mailserver
where, of course you will replace youruserid and your.real.mailserver with the setttings for your real mail account.
The intent would be:
Thunderbird <> avast Internet Mail scanner <> Propel accelerator <> Mail Server
No guarantees - but it might work.
No I still couldn’t get it to work. Since I trust avast, I think I will stick with it and safer mail. Thanks
