For the last couple days I’ve had a keylogger on my computer. I’ve moved the virus to the chest, but I’m I don’t fully understand avast!
If someone could clarify this up for me;
1.“If I delete the virus from the chest, does that mean it’ll be gone from my computer?”
or
2.“If I delete it from the chest, does that mean it’s still inside my computer, just not in the chest”
It could be either depending on what the malware is. As a general rule, because some important files could be infected with malware that are essential for running your machine or drivers or other important things, we recommend that you NOT delete anything in your Virus Chest but instead leave it there for at least 3 weeks. Items in the Chest are in a safe area where the rest of your machine does not have access to it.
You can always at a later date after doing Avast virus definition updates rescan items in the Chest by right-clicking on each item to see if it clean…sometimes this happens. Should this happen and the item is clean, you can restore it back to your machine. Had you deleted this file, you would have no way of doing this.
Likewise, if you deleted an important file that you needed for your machine to run, you would be in trouble. So as a rule of thumb…never delete items you put in the Chest. Leave it there for a while.
You can always upload the items in the Chest to the Avast Virus Lab as well if you are suspicious that it is a false positive (FP), and it will be uploaded on the next virus definition update; you will not get a response back…that is why I mentioned rescanning your Chest again periodically.
