Sorry, but this is gonna be long: My computer serviceman downloaded avast SBSS onto my computer a year ago and everything was fine. He’s now out of business, virus protection was under his Key License. I got an alert 6 days ago to re-up on my virus protection. Went into Avast.com and downloaded the Free Home edition, got my email w/license key, followed instructions. I presently have a downloaded program of Avast 4.8, 63.74MB which states “Occasional Use” Last used 4-11-2008?
My question is this—I sometimes have the Blue Icon, sometimes it’s rotating and sometimes it’s not, I keep getting alerts that I have no virus protection at all.
Was it possible to switch from my computer serviceman’s SBSS protection to the Free Home Edition? Or do I need to just uninstall what is showing on my programs list and start over? I’m not an expert (obviously) on anti virus downloads. I run sell on eBay so should I perhaps download the Professional Edition instead of the Free Home Avast. I’m terribly confused right now, but know I’m in danger without any protection at all. Please send any and all advice quickly and write it simply, no tecky terms please. LOL Thanks.
When its rotating it means avast on access is scanning sth… when its not rotating, its not scanning anything…
I can help u with only that… cause I’m no expert at this…
Which is the operational system of the machine?
Do you use this computer at work?
I use it at home. Windows XP
There is no great need to panic as long as you have avast installed.
You may need to uninstall SBSS though. I wouldn’t have thought so but you might have to.
If you want to run Pro then there may be some migration from your SBSS account.
If you want to run Home then its free on demand.
You may need to uninstall then install Home clean as its readily available
