This is a little embarrassing but I have a little confusion over my status with avast and I’m hoping someone can help explain what to do next.
I previously had avast and liked it, so when my registration was due to expire I paid for the upgraded version. Then, I had to reinstall my OS so I assume all that is gone now. Now, I had another free installation of avast that is due to expire. My problem is that I didn’t install it, and the person who did the work on my computer is gone. So, I went to renew my registration but I got an email saying it didn’t recognize my email address. Not knowing what email address the person who originally installed it had used, I just signed up for a new version. I got an email back saying “You registration of avast! 4 Home Edition was successful, and you are now registered to use the program.” However, I am still getting the red box popping up telling me my registration is about to expire. I’m afraid both I and my avast are all confused. Ideally I’d like to regain my “paid” status but unfortunately I don’t recall the details or which of my six or seven email addresses I might have used. How should I proceed? I’m feeling pretty dumb right about now - thanks to anyone who will take the time to answer! :-[
im a little dizzy from reading your post but ill give it a try .You say you have six or seven addresses and you dont know which one avast recognises? Surely it would be the one your notice from Avast was addressed to dont you think?.
You say that you currently have a free installation which is due to expire. Obvious response is to go to Avast homepage and re-register, which will prompt a new licence code to be issued to whatever account you nominate.
If i have misunderstood you and you have already done this part then you only need to right click the “A” ball and follow the link to update your registration with the new code that came in the e-mail.
Cloussau, the first thing I did was exactly as you suggested (go to avast homepage and re-register) but got an email back from avast saying, “We are sorry, but we have no record in our database for the email address provided.” You see, I wasn’t the person who originally set it up. That was the same person who reinstalled my OS, who has now gone away. Who knows what he told avast my (or his) email address was. So, that’s when I re-registered and received an email with a key. I just don’t know if I can use the new key, which is linked to me and my email address, in the old installation of avast, which only knows him.
In the meantime, I will also contact chocholo and see if we can revive my paid status, thanks timcan.
Clearly I need to develop a better relationship with my antivirus software. It was so easy to take it for granted, just running in the background, spinning its little blue ball and periodically popping up little colored squares…
No problem in contacting me directly, but it is better to contact our sales department (they have e-mail address sales ]a[ avast.com), because they have payments details, invoices and similar things.
Also please note, that ‘avast! Home registration’ and ‘avast! Home license resend’ forms are not intended for use by paying customers, so it is not possible to get your paid license key via these forms.
