I believe Avast and AVG are now the same company. I have AVG VPN that I’m paying for. Is that the same ideas as AVAST Pro browser so I’m basically doing the same thing by using Avast free browser along with AVG Secure VPN or would I be better off dropping AVG VPN and going Avast Pro?
The problem being most people in the Avast Forum and I guess the AVG Forum haven’t got experience of both products.
A long time ago when Avast Software bought out AVG, it was felt that after a reasonable period of time it would merge into one product range. This didn’t happen and whilst the underlying antivirus engine, etc, are the same the User Interface is different as is the product range. There is an Avast VPN, which would essentially be the same as the AVG VPN (using the same infrastructure) but possibly a different interface.
The Avast Secure Browser (if that is what you mean by Avast Pro Browser), that product as far as I’m aware is a Secure Browser (based on chromium with extra security features) and not a full blown VPN like you are using.
There is no longer an Avast Pro (antivirus and firewall) product version, that ended many years (even before the purchase of AVG) and then became Avast Internet Security, which them Became Avast Premier and then Avast Premium. None of which had a VPN. But since the recent inclusion of The Avast One product range, only adds to the confusion.
So I guess you are likely to be even more confused now.
Hi. Thank you That’s very helpful. The reason it came up is that I started using the Avast browser, (I think by mistake) and it immediately came up with “save 61% and upgrade to Avast Pro now”. That’s what prompted me to ask. The Avast Pro does say "built in VPN with military grade encryption. Again, thanks for the reply.
Steve
You’re welcome.
It is certainly confusing, there is another Avast product, called Avast One (adding further confusion), it has Avast One (Essentials) a free product and that has limited VPN I believe and then there is Avast One (Paid version) and they confuse the hell out of me, there are just too many products to compare. But the Avast One range appears to be for the user that doesn’t want to do much in the way of tweaking. See https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/1/
I have been using Avast Free (not the Avast One Essentials one) for over 17 years and this new range of products confuses the hell out of me.
Hi guys, guess the offer was for ASB Pro, see: https://blog.avast.com/introducing-avast-secure-browser-pro-avast
???
Thanks for that, yet another choice, but strange to offer it to a user already paying for AVG VPN ???
I’m using ASL and also got it offered. Afaik, detection of already installed Avast/AVG/HMA VPN products is planned for future versions.
