confused bout the scan result

hi!
shalom from Israel, im a newbie in this webforum, coz i juz download avast yesterday, i did the thorough scan last nite and standard scan this afternoon too, after scanning my pc i got this result =
NAME OF FILE : C:\ PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST 4.… \0000: —> RESULT : UNABLE TO SCAN: THE FILE NAME, DIRECTORY NAME, OR VOLUME LABEL SYNTAX IS INCORRECT ???
actually, im not a pc geek or somethin. can anybody help me what to do with this thing? thank you.

hi… the reason of this eror message is that you’ve selected an virtual folder to scan… windows shell function returns bad path for it…

hi maxx_original, thanx for the immediate response, is there somethin i need to change or leave it that way?

it was discussed here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29806.0

Can you post a screenshot of the “Area-to-scan selection” window? What exactly have you selected to be scanned?

hi igor, thanx for the response, ok, im gonna post a screenshot in a few. pls wait, thanx

hi ! follow the file path, then try to scan the unscanned file. right click on it, then try to scan and see if you’ll have the same result.

thanx nourine, il try it later, 1st to igor, im sorry it took me so long to post this screenshot, :-\ now here it is,

I meant
1 - put the address of the unscanned file in the address bar
C:\ PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST 4.… \0000: —>
2 - press Ok,
3 - go directly to the file.
4 - right click on it
5 - and scan it, then see if avast is unable to scan it.

geezzz, where can i find that address bar u mean nourine? im sorry i really dont get what u mean, can u pls elaborate more? thanx! :-[
i already scan it again but it says error.

okay anie !
1- scan your computer, after the scan is over, the error appears. in the window which shows the unscanned files copy the the the path which look like C:\ PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST 4.… \0000: —> . Open Desktop and paste the path in the address bar.
then
2 - press Ok,
3 - go directly to the file.
4 - right click on it
5 - and scan it, then see if avast is unable to scan it.

hello again nourine, thank u, i did what u said and this is what i found.

This folder seems to be messing…

hi tech, thanx for the response, i duno what to do with this file, i cant find it, then i try to moved it, theres an error, so i cant put it in the chest. ive tried several times but not workin at all . :frowning:

Can you post the full path of this file?

hi tech, thanx, im at wit-ends now, i cant find this annoying file, i tried scanning it again, i tried moving it to the avast moved folder, so that i can put it in the chest, but unfortunately the result only says an error has occured during the processing of 1 result(S)! .shall i delete the file permanently or juz in the recycle bin?
or, uninstall avast and install again?

heres the file i really cant find, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4;;{E211B736-43FD-11D1-9EFB-0000F8757FCD}devid:{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\0000:

the file cannot be opened because you put the path of the file in the internet explorer, you should paste in the windows explorer

to find this file you should “show hidden files” and " hidden files of the system"

hi guys, thanx for all the help, i really appreciate it. with regards to the link that maxx_original gave me a few hrs ago, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29806.0, i check this out and i found somethin interesting what aidendale(a newbie too) said that she found the file in her Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 folder.
since i also have a Logitech Quickcam communicate stx, i made a wild guess this thing may also cause the prob i got, so what i did, before i scan again, i unmark the Logitech Quickcam communicate stx so that it can be excluded while avast is scanning, and fortunately after the scan, i ddnt got any scan results like the 1 i mentioned before. question is, will i keep it that way? exclude Logitech Quickcam during scanning?

Nourine, I apreciate your willingness to help, but I’m sorry to say that in this paricular case your recommendations are rather confusing.
The problem is indeed related to the Logitech “folder” (it’s not really a folder, in the filesystem sense of word).

Anie, all you need to do to prevent the problem from occuring is not have the Logitech folder checked, thats it.

Thanks
Vlk
