*confused* Just bought Avast 4.8 and there's version 6 now?

Hello, I’m alittle confused, I just bought version 4.8 from the website (i thought that it was the latest one, and I needed it for 15 PCs) I’m having an issue with it updating on the 2 pcs i got to install it on today and I came here and saw that version 6 is out now? Can i use the Key i got with the 4.8 in 6? what can i do to get the latest version.

TIA
Drew

I though that they had stopped selling avast 4.8 licenses.

The idea being you download whatever avast version it is that you wish to install and the default download would be 6.0.

In saying you need it for 15 PCs what environment will these be run ?
If stand alone systems with win XP or higher then you can use avast6, but you can’t use the avast 4.8 license that has changed but can be converted ?
You could also contact sales (at) avast (dot) com by email.

  • avast! 5 Pro license convert from 4.8 Pro license. Try http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php now, fill in the form giving your email and 4.8 Pro License key and they will send the new license file to you (presumably it will check you have a legit 4.8 Pro license first). Whilst this talks of avast5, avast6 also uses a license file license.avastlic.

If you are running it under a network and using the Avast Distributed Network Manager (ADNM) then the ADNM product currently only supports avast4.8 ?

Unfortunately, yes, ADNM only supports 4.8.

Although, you could just use 15 individual copies of Avast 6 and install them all manually, but I suggest staying with 4.8 and using ADNM.

I’m still stuck with it, but it’s working fine for my clients.

All we need now is a response from the OP as to what environment they will be used in.

They’re 15 PCs that are on a network, no windows server, no real need for a central administration.

Then as they are stand alone systems you can follow my suggestion for that in Reply #1 above.

I actually downloaded the new 6 on a whim, and they have a spot to put a 4.x key, so I put it in and it seems to work… crosses fingers

Well it shouldn’t work (to my knowledge) as it is a different format, so either you didn’t have a 4.8 key or it will still be using the trial key for the first 30 days.

You need to check the avastUI, Maintenance, Registration and see if it is in fact valid.

it says its Registered to me. Here’s what i downloaded off the website.
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe

when i run that, on one of the first few pages it asks for the key, at the very bottom it has a sopt for a 4.x key, and so far it seems to be working

If it now has a ‘spot’ for a 4.8 key, that is a new innovation (saves having to convert using an on-line form) and it must do the conversion behind the scenes.
