Hi and thank you for your input. Despite the fact that there are millions out there who know exactly what you mean, I honestly have no idea what a ‘clean image’ is. Moreover, although I do understand what you mean by the ‘re-installation of windows from scratch’, the carrying out of such a procedure, is again totally beyond my ken. Consequently, the ‘£40.00 expense’ which you regard as mindless, ended hour after hour of my own attempts to get the problem sorted out.
Edit: Decided to ask for the definition of ‘clean image’ on google and it came up with this:
“An approximate deconvolution of the dirty beam from the dirty image, derived by an application of the Högbom CLEAN algorithm or one of its derivatives, such as the Clark CLEAN algorithm.” from this page:
Hello to Uberevangelist Bob3160, from a few replies up this thread. You say ‘the license is always valid (starts) from the purchase date’ - er, that’s not what Avast say!
They say: ‘NOTE: You won’t lose a day of protection by renewing early (to prevent a lapse in protection). We will just add another year to your current expiration date.’ That’s from their email in the offer to renew. It seems right, too - otherwise everybody has to hang around on tenterhooks waiting for 23:59 on their expiry date to renew, or pay for less than a year every time they pay for a ‘year’. It took me three weeks to get Avast to sort this out, but that’s what they did in the end. So I think your advice is actually plain wrong, but thanks for trying to help.
And if that advice is wrong as it is in this case, what then? Members should be made aware that this guy doesn’t always get it right.
My point is that there is no hint in your statement “The license is always valid (starts) from the purchase date.” that this is third hand knowledge. And with 20,000+ posts behind you, readers will swallow your words, hook, line and sinker. And that could cost them dearly!!!
@blowtorch,
You seem to have a problem and possibly an obsession.
Get over it. Move on to something else, you’ve hammered your point to death.
Your license starts when it’s issued. Try holding on to it for 6 month and then apply it.
I’m sure Avast can make exceptions but, exceptions aren’t the rule.

I just love the last bit! Licence starts when it is issued Hold it for 6 months and then apply it. And Avast can make exceptions but exceptions aren’t the rule!. Wow. Genius, downright genius. : : : :
