"Bulletin Test Proves Price Does Not Guarantee Quality

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, August 13, 2010 - avast! Free Antivirus scored better than some of the best-known paid products in the latest Virus Bulletin test, proving cost is not an effective measurement of quality.

avast! Free Antivirus detected all In-the-Wild viruses – including the newest W32/Virut samples – on a computer running Windows Vista. The tests were made by the Virus Bulletin, an independent authority on computer security.

“With extra kudos for prettiness, reliability and ease of testing, avast! comfortably wins another VB100 award,” wrote John Hawes, team director of Virus Bulletin’s VB100 testing program, in his August 2010 review.

In addition to spotting 100% of the In-the-Wild viruses, avast! Free Antivirus was a top performer in VB’s battery of malware detection tests, beating out paid products from McAfee and Symantec.

“Our competitors will have a real workout trying to convince people that they should pay more for less protection,” said Vince Steckler, CEO of AVAST Software.

avast! Free Antivirus stood out in VB’s reactive and proactive detection tests. Reactive detection measures the ability of a security solution to find new viruses and quickly add them to its virus-signature database. avast! significantly outperformed both Symantec and McAfee in this area, benefiting from its huge free user base which channels new virus samples to the avast! Virus Lab. This CommunityIQ is an avast! feature that no other brand can match.

Nevertheless, the strength of avast! goes far beyond its ability to quickly get samples of new virus variants. VB’s proactive test examined each security solution’s ability to detect new viruses without an updated signature database, forcing them to rely on heuristic and behavioral analysis. In this test, avast! Free Antivirus again outperformed both Symantec Endpoint Security 11.0 and McAfee Total Protection 10.5.

That’s the first time I’ve heard of Avast! doing so well in detection of new malware. That’s great news. Kudos to the Avast! team for going a long way in keeping the web safer for everyone.

Keep Up The Good Work
Thanks for all the hard work efforts!

Seems than Avira is hiding protection from the users… (http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/rap-index.xml)
Look at AVG… People is blaming but it’s better than avast ::slight_smile:
Compare the Pro with the Free versions…

my friend told me about avast! 2 years ago, when i had broadband connection at home i decided to have an antivirus. i know internet is dangerous, so i need more protection. and thanks to avast! for protect my PC for all this time :-*

that’s great news. thanks avast! team!

Congratulations to the Avast Team !

Hi avast team,

Congratulations on a great performance,

polonus

This one would be good for those who are considering MSE because they say it provides better protection (NOT according to this). Another interesting one avira free gets a better score than avira pro, weird. Another notable exception being GData where the combined avast and bitdefender engines is greater than the individual engines.

Another point: the bad performance of Symantec and McAfee.
After all, MSE is better (in this test) than both of them

Hi

Well done Avast  Keep Up The Good Work

Lep pozdrav

well done Avast may you continue to improve, the skys the limit ;D

How could we live without an awesome protection so called “avast!”. Tell me a good reason why we shouldnt have it. I see none…

Mr.Agent

Congratulations avast team, and users.

Tell me a good reason why we shouldnt have it. I see none...
If you dont have a PC,or just the GOD hate you!!one of those i think ;D ;D

Avast! did well but I was really surprised to see how well AVG did. It doesn’t beat Avast! in other tests but it did in this one. I’m still sticking with Avast! because it’s lighter and slicker in my opinion.

there is still enough room for improvement of Avast!
but i like this speed of progress ;D

Ya apart that reason im not sure there any else.
