I love Avast! :-*

Nice one, but are they saying avast came first as it just looks like alphabetic order.

But my, what a god awful looking A V G interface. To think someone asked for/suggested the avast UI to be a Metro (can’t call it that now) tiled interface (pass the sick bag).

Hi DavidR,

I knew you’d like to cling on to the start menu we had, and not like to be “out on the Windows tiles”.

polonus

Nothing to do with the Start menu, but the A V G butt ugly interface in the article. No one else seems to have gone down the lets clone win8 tiled interface for our AV route or they all look like a bunch clones.

no…not alphabetic as comodo is #12 and clamwin #20

Weird as I couldn’t see anything specific that said this was a ranking order and considering the Title “Comprehensive List of FREE Anti-Virus 2013” I still have my doubts, but yes there are many non-alphabetic entries in the list.

As for home users, most antivirus companies also offers a cheaper version that works on Windows operating system and requires an annual subscription. However, there is also a wealth of anti-virus software offered for free with the catch of disabling some of the extra defense system such as firewall, behavior blocking and also only allowing you to use it for personal home use only. After extensive research, we have come up with an up-to-date comprehensive list of free anti-virus programs for your convenience.

The last sentence (I have italicised for emphasis) just appears to say it is just a comprehensive list - for your convenience.

OMG :o AVG is starting to make me feel sick, and I think I’m going to fart! for a week on top of AVG, Avira and what happen to Bitdefender Free Edition AV not showing up on the comprehensive list of free Anti-Virus 2013 as well. Oooooooooooooooh crap here is come :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

They listed Avira… But Avira is not yet compatible with Windows 8…

The list isn’t about OS compatibility

But shows what is behind the recommendations…

That’s the point they aren’t recommendations either, nothing in the article saying they are recommendations or a ranking order, just a comprehensive list. Which by all accounts it isn’t comprehensive (SpeedyPC’s post).

It seems to be more of a subjective list.

Well just what it says in the tin/Title “Comprehensive List of FREE Anti-Virus 2013”

+1

Yes, Like he said;

" After extensive research, we have come up with an up-to-date comprehensive list of free anti-virus programs for your convenience "

…whatever that research covered.

But something can not be denied, Avast! is #1 download program in CNET this week.

+1 A V G did have a half way decent GUI. It now looks like “the north end of a cow going south”. ;D

The correct term is “Modern Interface”.
I never cared for modern art either.

Has anyone checkout BitDefender Free? It’s a cloud a/v with real-time scanning.

http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/free.html

How does that relate to the topic of this thread ???

This is also not their forum. Maybe you should ask there.

If you had read the page properly yourself you would have noticed it is on demand scanning only plus there is also mention that you need to run a more complex AV, which would of course be avast ;D
