I have a computer set up in a remote location that I use with a web cam to monitor for security purposes.
The computer is hooked up to a router which is connected to the internet though a dsl modem. I have had this system set up for a year and it was working without any problems until 2-3 months ago.
It seems that almost everytime Avast downloads an update, the computer loses connectivity. When I log into the router remotely, the computer does not show up as being connected to the LAN. I can resolve the problem by having someone restarting the computer manually but this is not something I want to keep doing.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on the computer in question.
The only thing I can think is that it may be a firewall issue. The connectivity problem has happened every couple of days and when I check the log file on the router, the computer goes offline after Avast has finished downloading the updates:
