Considering Avast

(I didn’t know where to post this, so I posted it here. I just got really confused, especially since there’s no General Rules here, like in the MBAM Forums.)

So, I’ve been on the MBAM Forums, and I’ve been thinking the problem for the lag I’ve been having might just be AVG, as said by one of the admin that helped me. They suggested Avast or Avira, and since I know nothing of Avira, I’ve considered getting Avast.

If I get Avast, what is there to expect? Is there anything I should know first? How much space does it take up? I’ve heard of the Free License thing. Do I need to renew that every 30 days? Does it have free real-time, sort of like the Smart-screen protection on Windows 8? I just have so many questions I want to know before switching if I do~

By “No General Rules here”, I mean no General Rules within each forum. Not just the master forum.

Welcome to the forum.
Comparison is very easy:

Green means you’re getting the protection when using the free version of avast!
Red means they (Avast’s free AV competitors) don’t offer it in their free version or, it’s not available in their free version at all.
If you decide to switch, the following instructions make this very easy:
Successfully Installing avast!
Your decision. I made my move over 10 years ago and have never regretted that switch.

Good afternoon KittiBluStout and welcome to Avast Forum

Sorry about hearing that your computer have lag problems. Lag problems can be caused by many factors such as you have way to much programs that you don’t use at all (consider uninstalling it) what you could do is to do a disk defragmentation and disk cleanup which can help at a reasonable level. I have been using AVG 2014 (desktop computer) and Avast 2014 (my laptop) for years and years now and telling you from past experience I consider both of them are good antivirus program but remember every antivirus doesn’t provide 100% protection.

If you get Avast you will get an absolutely A+ antivirus program with lots of amazing and awesome protection and features and it’s very very light on your windows OS system resources :). You can even install Avast Free Antivirus 2014 and yes it is for free all you have to do is register your license and once every year you have to renew it and yes it has free real-time protection but some advanced features like avast firewall and etc features is only for internet security and premier version of Avast (Windows built is firewall is good already). Also Avast Free has web protection protecting users from malware sites. More about the questions you have about Avast Free it’s found here http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB3#articleContent and the features that Avast Free have can be found here http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB89#idt_01

I’ve decided to give avast! a shot. It’s installing as of now.

Very good! Let us know how it goes?

Hopefully you’re following the instructions provided and are totally un-installing AVG before attempting to install avast!.
