Consrv.dll multiple copies to "Virus Chest" 21 to be exact in last day

This appears to be a new variant, and at the moment I cannot see where it is spawning from. So it is time to go outside of windows

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:OTL [2011/11/09 16:45:20 | 000,000,000 | ---D | M] -- C:\Users\joe\AppData\Roaming\Pemyo [2011/09/21 13:38:16 | 000,000,000 | ---D | M] -- C:\Users\joe\AppData\Roaming\RenPy [2011/10/20 12:12:31 | 000,000,000 | ---D | M] -- C:\Users\joe\AppData\Roaming\RpGlDYl7NAo8jjD

:Files
ipconfig /flushdns /c

:Commands
[purity]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

For this next programme there will not be a log produced, so could you make a note of the deletions that it does, for my research purposes

Please download the following programmes to your desktop:

Dr Web Live CD

ImgBurn

Install IMGBurn

[]Double click Dr Web
[
]IMGBurn will open
[*]Burn the ISO to a cd

[]Reboot the infected computer with the CD in the drive
[
]Ensure that the first boot device is CD - If you are not sure about that then see this page for instructions
[*]As loading starts, a dialogue window will prompt you to choose between the standard and safe modes.

[*]Use arrow keys to select DrWeb-LiveCD (Default)

[*]When the system is loaded, check the disks or folders you want to scan, and click on “Start”.

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Dr%20Web%20shots/livecdDriveselection.gif

[]The programme will now scan for and cure/delete any malware that it finds. Allow it to do so
[
]Once completed reboot to normal windows
[*]No log is produced so once in normal windows run a fresh OTL scan and let me know if the problems persist

Greetings. Ran the Dr. Web bootable CD, I had to select and “cure”. Found the following;
Hiberfil and pagefile too large to scan (no action on my part)
10 detected
d:\documents and settings/allusers/microsoft/windows defender/local copy/{various versions} defender.exe packed by XOREXE threat detected.

there was also a bunch of zipfiles in the old spybot directory under quarantine, should I try to Dr. Web clean or delete them also?

OTL log attached.

The zip files in quarantine are harmless

Are you still getting the alerts ?

Good Morning. Yes, still getting the alerts. The PC feels clean, compared to what it was like. Thanks for your help in trying to resolve this.

Could you re-run combofix please and allow it to update - there is something I am missing - but I do not know what yet

Re-run of Combofix. Updated to new combofix, disabled Avast while running Combofix. MAB picked up backdoor log attached.

[list]Do the following:

[*]Click on the Start button and then choose Control Panel.
[*]Click on the System and Security link.

Note: If you’re viewing the Large icons or Small icons view of Control Panel, you won’t see this link so just click on the Administrative Tools icon and skip to Step 4.
[*]In the System and Security window, click on the Administrative Tools heading located near the bottom of the window.
[*]In the Administrative Tools window, double-click on the Computer Management icon.
[*]When Computer Management opens, click on Disk Management on the left side of the window, located under Storage.

After a brief loading period, Disk Management should now appear on the right side of the Computer Management window.

Note: If you don’t see Disk Management listed, you may need to click on the |> icon to the left of the Storage icon.
Take a screen Shot of the Disk Management Window and attach the screen shot to your reply.

Disk Management screen shot attached. Thanks

OK a quick change of tack… Could you start taskmanager and look under services for one with this dexcription or similar :

Safety Settings Service

Found it under the “Services” button, bottom right corner of Services tab in Task manager.

Disable it and restart your computer ;).
I don’t know why all antivirus companies aren’t update their databases for this threat. At this moment there’s no antivir program that can detect/cure this threat according to virustotal scan.

OK this is the new variant - you are number three that I have seen with it

SO we will kill it rather than disable it

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

If you have Malwarebytes 1.6 or better installed please disable it for the duration of this run

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:OTL SRV:64bit: - [2009/07/13 20:39:46 | 000,005,120 | ---- | M] (Iomega) [Auto | Running] -- C:\Windows\SysNative\schscnt.dll -- (HECI)

:Files
ipconfig /flushdns /c

:Commands
[purity]
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

Seemed a little stubborn running that fix. But, feels okay, and no alerts yet. OTL log attached.

Looks better could you update and then run MBAM and psot the resultant log please, along with any problems you are having

Mbam updated, scan found a few. Logs attached

Those are files we have already quarantined… Any further problems ?

No problems noted. Re-scanned mbam and Avast, including “on-boot”. Seems clear, should I delete from quarantine? What is the summary of repairs effected, and any advice, as this is my daughter’s PC? Thanks for your assistance and persistence.

Yes delete from quarantine… The main purpose of this one was to download other malware

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
