Constant system crashes due to AVAST :(

Hey there,

So I’ve been a paying user of avast for almost 3 odd years now. Been pretty happy with the product so far (with only one big issue related to it before which I managed to solve).

However, about a couple of months ago I started getting frequent crashes (every 1-2 hours comp would freeze and shortly afterwards restart OR would force me to shut it down via the power button).

After updating all the drivers I could on my comp these crashes stopped for about 3 weeks - then started again. Spent ages pouring through forums, testing memory, running diagnostics, checking heat. Eventually ended up digging so deep I found out about bug checking - and it seems the problem is related to Avast!

Here is the WhoCrashed report on the last 3 crashes:

Conclusion

3 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

aswstm.sys (Stream Filter, AVAST Software)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination with the errors that have been reported for these drivers. Include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions on the web by users who have been experiencing similar problems.

END OF REPORT

So, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. I’ve also made sure to install the recent updates that were just released as well.

But these crashes are still happening. Not sure if there’s a fix or not. Or if it’s only me suffering from these issues. :-\

Will try removing the software from my computer next and see if the crashes persist.

Just thought I’d let you know and pray that you have a solution haha!

P.s - as I wrote this i actually suffered a 4th crash) X_x

Sincerely,
Neo.

Hello! Neosythe.

 • Which version…?
 • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
 • Other security related software installed…?
 • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Program version: 12.1.2272 (build 12.1.3076.0) ------ Also, the version before this one had the same problem.
Virus definitions version: 160627-1
OS: Windows 10
Other security related software: Nope.
Previous AVS: Actually none. Was a console peasant until 3 years ago. Had a mac laptop and that was it

Do u upgrade this version via GUI?

Tried that before (but tried it anyway just now to make sure for you) - the repair tool said it was successful but I also got this:

Failed to load language dll language path: 1033\UILangRes.dll

When I got that last time, I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Doesn’t seem to fix it

EDIT: And yes, I have tried reinstalling AND upgrading from the GUI

If not successful this time.I reported it to Avast! Dev.

Tried this:https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=187663.0 Offline.

Yea, crashes have still been persisting after I tried it.

And unfortunately that version is the one I’m currently using already. Still getting crashes with it :frowning:

Thanks for the help Be Secure and also letting them know!

Sincerely,
Neo.
