Contacting Avast! with a license query - Avast! 4.8 Pro

Greetings,
After using Avast!'s free software at work (and then having a bad encounter with several viruses), I decided to purchase Avast! Pro for my home computers.

I bought 3 licenses for three years from the Avast! web site. I have a copy of the web sales receipt, but cannot find my copy of the activation email (there was a lot going on in trying to rid the three machines of the bugs, I think it probably got lost, then).

One of three PCs appear to be registered okay - but the other two are giving me a “trial, buy now” screen instead of the “registered” screen as is on the one PC. I thought that I was supposed to use one license key for all three, but the other two machines won’t accept the one I was given (which makes sense).

So…last week I emailed my request and sales receipt to Avast! to see if they would or could re-email the license key(s) - but I have not had a response from them at all. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

Hello Pug1ll,

First let me make clear the Commercial use clause for Avast Home:

From the avast website:

This edition is FREE OF CHARGE for non-commercial & home use only. Both of these conditions should be met! If you are not a home user or if you use your computer for business purposes, we offer a wide range of more suitable products providing higher data security, starting with avast! Professional Edition.

Next,

Who did you email?

You could try sending an email to sales(at)avast(dot)com and explain the problem you are having.

Which was the old antivirus at that machines? How did you uninstall them?
Are the system time and date correct?

See the tutorial: http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/insert_key.htm

Hi Scott and Tech,
Thank you both for your quick responses and your assistance. I appreciate your help very much. Please accept my apology for the length of this response…

To clarify…first, work is for a local non-profit 501(c)(3) agency - I do not know who installed the free version of the Avast! software, it was there when I came on board a few months ago. I am sorry to say that I had never heard of Avast!, nor had I any reason to read any of the software licensing agreements on the group’s computer - but I will definitely relay the software agreement information to them.

I bought Avast! Pro at the recommendation of one of the group’s “gurus” when I started having problems with my business PCs. I own a licensed graphic design company - I purchased the Pro version for my use.

My original email request for help went to the e-address Scott cited. (Still no response as of this morning.)

I could not cut and paste the original key - as I cannot find that email. But I will attempt to re-enter it again. Re the FAQ, the first computer (the one successfully licensed) had nothing but the Win XP SP 3 installed on it - my guru had to reformat it to get rid of the problems we were having. Neither the second PC nor the laptop (both Win XP, SP 3) have ever had an anti-virus program installed.

Both of those machines have the current date - July 10, 2009. I am really not sure about the admin rights, though, as I have not required my equipment be set up to be password protected or anything like that. I am sorry to say I am not very savvy regarding that particular part of the OS. I do know that when I boot up (on any one of the 3), they immediately show the desktop - whereas the group’s PC takes you first to a “User” screen. My laptop is the only one that shows a “User” screen, and then only when it’s woken up from “sleep” mode, so perhaps that is the problem with using the key on it.

I went to “About Avast” to copy the key - which was there; and I noticed this:
Type: Time Limited
Expiration: Thursday, September 03, 2009 1:12:10 PM
Updates expiration: Monday, April 01, 2013 1:00:00 AM

Does this mean that I will have to pay another fee in September or ??

Thank you, again, for your time, your patience and your help. Pug1ll

Hello:m
I need help. I am very frustrated and unable to contact anyone by phone.
I purchased the professional software 2 yr package and each time I attempt a download I can not get passed an error. I want to cancel my subscription…please help

The sales email response isn’t usually tardy and the most common issue is anti-spam blocking the replies, either from and ISP or email service. I would try contacting them again using a different email address (different domain).

You could try one of the free Yahoo accounts as these have worked in the past where for whatever reason a reply wasn’t forthcoming.

Pug1ll, you need to contact sales (sales at avast dot com) to have your pro key back. Use the same email that you used to get the key.

kenneth blakes, where did you buy avast? From where are you trying to download avast?

Hello Tech,
Thank you again for responding so quickly. I did try to email the sales dept. at Avast! using the address listed on their site. Still haven’t received a response.

But, I do have good news! I came across the original Avast! email on one of my external drives. I cut and pasted it (as per your earlier suggestion) from there to the laptop - with Success! I will do the other PC this evening.

Thank you so much for your prompt, friendly, assistance. I’m grateful to have you here as a resource. Pug1ll

Pug1ll, glad everything is working fine now. Come back any time you need help
