Hi, a newbie here so I’m not sure this is the right place to post but here goes…
I’ve been with Avast for about 9 months and everything has been great, in that time about 5/6 alerts. However over the last 4 days there have been at least 40 or more…sorry, there goes another one…logged on for 20 mins and have had 5 alerts >:(
They come in the form of ****(random letters).exe and are described as Win32: Trojan Gen {UPX!}…and another >:(
Scanner sensitivity is set high, my ports are in stealth mode and a sweep of the PC shows no “resident” virus.
I had tried that site before but on a re-scan it found the following…
TROG DOWNLOAD A…sys32\augscrsur exe
‘’’ ‘’’ ‘’‘’ ‘’’ ’ \lziomediaupd
‘’ VIVA ‘’ ‘’\autodrop exe
I’ve deleted them as the scan says that they are “non-cleanable”.
I await the results with interest and yes I am fully patched and up to date.
If you find a virus keeps coming back after you delete it, it’s most probably infected the System Restore folder, the best way to solve this is to disable System Restore, reboot your machine and then enable it again. After all, run a full avast! scanning. System Restore cannot be disabled on Windows 9x.
Windows attempts to protect files that are deleted from the system folders (just in case it was an accident), so they can be restored if required. The problem is many malware writers are wise to that and put their files in the system folders, this is also done to confuse you into thinking you could be deleting an important system file.
Disable system restore, reboot, scan and if clean enable system restore again.
It could be necessary boot in Safe Mode to scan too (press F8 while booting and choose the Safe Mode). Hope this helps.
