ContraVirus© 2007

I have a warning for ContraVirus© 2007 on my computer have done some research where in the form for some help
Dan

Did you try a Google search for removal of this? Here is what I got from Google …

http://g.s.scandoo.com/search?q=ContraVirus©+2007&hl=en&start=10&sa=N

Which lead me to this …

There are a couple of suggestions listed. I would try the simple ones first. You might get lucky as one suggested that Spyware Terminator could fix this problem. I can not say that it will but it is worth a try.

We will need more information to be able to help you:

  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
  • What was the filename and path where the virus was found?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
  • Any other security programs?

???

I’m sorry it has taken so long for me to respond. I was making a replay when my time had run out and had to start over again, and I am slow to begin with. ;D
I am using avast 4.7 version 000763-5,08/05 It is up to date and is up dated automatically on a daily basis, data base only.
The file name-CotraVirusPro.exe Path-C:\Program Files\ContraVirus Virus name is- Win32:Mailbot-N

I use Windows Internet Explorer provided by yahoo. I have windows 2000 XP pro and is up to date with the fire wall on auto up dates and Virus protection on. I do not use any other antivirus programs other than avast. And no other security programs.
I think that I got this thought a email with a link in the text and when I went to the link I got a virus warning, first one that I had seen in over a few years. I thought it was form the avast, but now I’m not so sure, then another and it went to a web site with a free virus scan so I used it, and they wanted you to buy their anti-virus software, not so fast I thought I need to check my anti-virus first. Used the avast and rescaned and got a warning, But I had a Icon in my tray from windows. When you click on that Icon it does not always work, but some times when you right click it will take you to that web site… I’m still learning how to navigate this site so please be patient with me Dan.

Have a look at this link, its the removal instructions for Contravirus.I know its a little dated, but I believe the same removal tool SmitfraudFix,from S!RI is still being used to remove Contravirus 2007.

Actually,on second look its not dated, quite a recent link

Consider using RogueRemover to get clean from it.
