Control size of avastdaemon.log ?

Is there a way to control the size of avastdaemon.log ? Mine had blown up to 1.3 GB (you read that well) before I trashed it and restarted, and now it has swollen again to 50 MB. While I agree that some level of logging may be helpful in certain cases, filling my hard drive (and taking disk access time to do so) is not exactly my ideal for a log file.

/private/var/log/avastdaemon.log : 50 MB
/private/var/log/avastfileshield.log : 2 MB

Damn! I didn’t know about this little monster… Mine is(was) at 800 MB, avast should have a way to limit this!

And is not exactly easy to delete either as it’s in use by avast.

Well,
the logging sensitivity was lowered now (will come out with next program update).

Instant modification is possible as well - just edit the file /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.avast.daemon.plist - and change the level from 0x0000008a to 0x00000022 (just log infections and errors, and nothing else).
Reboot (or daemon reloading via launchctl command) will activate this modification.

Nvmd, found the value… Ignore this post.

I tried doing this step and after rebooting, avast showed an engine failure. Only way to make it work against is to reinstall the software. Tried it 3 times with the same results.

Send it to the trash, insert password, reboot, empty trash.

My log is 4GB (!!!). Can we noobs get instructions for how to go about the above? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Got it, never mind. Question, what is the impact of trashing avastdaemon.log?

In your case, you regain 4 GB.

You probably corrupted the format of the plist file, and that’s why the daemon is unable to start anymore, until reinstalled.
