Copy times out while avast enabled.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my machine. My server computer runs Windows XP 32bit. My girlfriends computer runs XP 32bit as well.

I use the latest Avast 5 and I cannot say I like it at all compared to 4. I have many problems with it, and they have been very frustrating at the least.

I have been using your program for many years now and have spread great words to any clients computer’s I fixed, and family in general.

I hate to say it but, I have a huge issue that has not fixed it-self, and I am about to uninstall Avast forever. Copying between my gf’s xp32 and my win7 64 has never had a problem, but when I want to copy to my server(Xp32) from my 7(64bit) machine, the copy dialoge freezes, and I have to cancel the copy window. It takes about 2-5mins for the window to disappear.
I then have to disable avast on my server machine and re-copy the files for it to work. I don’t know what is exactly going on, but any time I disable avast (for 5mins), it copies fine. When it auto re-enables after 5mins, it sometimes works fine, but it happens quite a bit where I get this copy timeout.

Anyone else had this issue?

Hi ryanericw,

Sorry to hear that you are having a problem; can you confirm exactly how you are copying the files across? If it is simply across the network, have you tried to exclude that path from being scanned by avast?
Additionally, when you say you stop avast and it then works, do you stop the whold program or just one shield?

Look forward to hearing from you,

Best,
Adam

I have my server’s harddrives mapped on my main computer. So I access them via Z:\ or Y:.
I am not sure which shield, as I usually just disable them all it takes forever for the copy window to close out so I can try to copy again.

I have narrowed it down to the network shield. Anyone know what’s going on?
About to install komodo av/firewall if this is going to stay an issue…:S

~bump.
I un-installed Avast. I am very upset about this as it never was an issue before v5. Avast should have left the eye candy for the mac users, and kept v4.

I have this exact same issue at work. We have a windows 2003 domain setup with roughly 25 users and a few standalone systems. I have a windows 7 x64 system on the domain with avast managed installed, and i have a standalone windows xp x32 machine with avast managed on it as well. When the network provider is running any copying from the windows 7 system to the client xp will stop and fail. Once i removed avast from the 7 machine the copying was uninhibited in either direction.

What version of avast are you using ?
