copying Avast program WITH UPDATES in place

Does anyone know if it is possible to copy the Avast 4.8 program off of one’s computer with the updates and save it to disk or whatever?? I will be starting over and attempting another download of 5.0, which means unistallation of 4.8. I have the program downloaded, but in spite of suggestions, have not found a way to increment the update download, which takes about four hours on my dial-up. I am not aware of any way to do this, but with the luck I have had so far with 5.0, it would not surprise me to have to revert back to 4.8 after the 5.0 attempt yet again. Thanks…

You can’t copy avast from one computer to another disk, computer as the registry keys, etc.

Having downloaded the avast4 installation file you should always save it so you don’t have to download it again (this contains the VPS also), you may well have to check for updates once installed, etc. but those should be much smaller. I too am on dial-up and I save every download for that very reason if I need to reinstall.

In avast4 before any uninstall you could save the 400.vps file this is the complete VPS. Before uninstalling, so if you have to reinstall, use the saved avast4 installation file, disable the avast self-defence module and then replace the installed 400.vps file with the current/up to date one that you saved from before the uninstall.

OK. Thanks…

You’re welcome.
