Corrupt 'aavm4h.dll' file ?

I was a happy user of Avast until November last year I had a few problems. As time was tight I abandoned Avast and took another free antivirus instead.

However I would like to return to Avast but I am experiencing problems with the ‘aavm4h.dll’ file that has remained on the PC.

If I try to install Avast 4.7 I get an error “cannot load library from file…aavm4h.dll”. I have tried to ‘repair’ Avast installation to no good, I cannot delete the file or it’s directory I get a ‘Data error (cyclic redundancy check)’ message.

Any thoughts on how I can return to the fold?

Cheers
Dave

I’m afraid CRC error is a bad thing. It means that either your harddisk is malfunctioning (has a bad block), or maybe that the filesystem is somehow corrupted.
You may try running ScanDisk (or maybe some disk check tool - of you have any), including the surface check - but I suggest to backup all the important data somewhere else first.

Thanks igor, not what I wanted to hear  - but it’s about time I did some archiving anyhow…
