corrupt CAB file?

I am new to using Avast…when I do a thorough scan, I get the following message on 2 files with my Quickbooks Program…“unable to scan: CAB archive is corrputed.” What does this mean? Quickbooks is working normally.

I also get an “unable to scan- file is password protected” message after scanning on quite a few files associated with Pest Patrol & SpyBot, but I have been told that this is normal…is it?

THANK YOU!

All is fine. If you use the search option on this board you will find many threads explaining this.

A cab (cabinet) file is a compressed file, that when unpacked may be a part of the installation routine and not be used again, so it is quite possible that Quickbooks still works.

Files can get corrupted and once corrupted can’t really be scanned, all that is happening is you are being told what files couldn’t be scanned, not that there is a specific problem/infection.

avast doesn’t know the password so it can’t scan the file, some program such as Pest Patrol & SpyBot protect some of there files, partly to avoid other programs detecting problems that they have removed (but taken a back-up in case you want to restore). You can reduce the number of these by periodically removing old restore/recovery/back-ups in the programs.
