Just now I installed the Avast! 4.x Home software. When the system rebooted, the boot-time virus scan detected a number of viruses in the Avast! program files folder. I chose to move those and the other 699 infected files. Now, after windows has started, I am getting hundreds of “avast! Warning” pop-up windows, all for the files that already are in the “moved” folder.
How do I prevent these files from being scanned again?
???
If I had over 700 viruses on my system, I’d seriously think about reformatting and re-installin from scratch.
I’d also change all my passwods and probably get new credit cards.
I’d also like to know what you used before you installed avast! so that I can stay far away from that program.
Well considering the number of infected files I am quite sure he never used any other antivirus program, which is even worse… I don’t believe that even Norton would miss all those viruses entering that system.
People should take more care of their PCs, and it’s not just about their systems, but all other systems which get in touch with his system… is it e-mail, file-sharing or any other way of communication.
Just like Bob said, I would consider reformating everything from the scratch because most than likely bunch of system files is infected and unusable…
With that amount of viruses, without knowing exactly what they were I would say that his system is seriously compromised to a degree that it may no longer belong to him. So it is probably a better idea to reformat and start from scratch.
