I recently scrapped both Norton and Windows Live OneCare and installed Avast (free version). A few days later, I had to reboot my PC. I noticed that the Avast program scanned my harddrive. The reboot was aborted and I have not been able to reboot since. I get an error that my Windows\system32\config\system file is corrupt. Has anyone had a problem like this or is there a hacker out there posing as Avast and downloading malware?
Does anyone have any advice on repairing the System file using the XP Pro Repair Console? If so, please reply to Bob at robmac@remnet.com.
