Hi all.
I’d like to report a strange behaviour that I encountered first, when my new 100Mbit connection was set-up mid-December. Here is what it is about:
Problem:
- Downloads stop at 99% (e.g. Firefox download bar stops progressing until manual interference)
- Downloads are corrupted as in “not installable/open-able”
What I encountered so far
- tested several browsers (Opera, IE, Firefox, Chrom) → same behaviour
- Program initiated downloads would sometimes also fail, e.g. program updates
- Youtube videos will stop or go greenish
- Problems encountered only at high speed, i.e. near the 100Mbit or above >=9MB/sec
- No problems encountered if avast is switched off
- I also checked cabling switch and router
- No Problems so far moving things around within my home-net, e.g. shifting music from computer to NAS I get ca 9-10MB/Sec
The problem seems somewhat random and “slow speed downloads” always work. I definitely did not have this problem before the 100Mbit upgrade.
Could it be that Avast gets “hickups” at high speed downloads and interferes with standard internet downloads?
My setup
- Athlon Phenom II X6 T1000
- ASUS Crossfire Extreme MoBo
- Vertex 3 SDD as primary hard disk
- 3 more sata II hard drives
- 2 Blu Ray drives
- Windows 7/64 Bit
- AVAST Internet Security newest version
- Computer is hooked up TO a switch TO wall Ethernet socket TO switch TO router (Fritz Cable 6360) TO Provider Socket in cellar
- All CAT 5/7 cables
Other than that, I use Windows 8 and SpyBot-S&D 2 is running in the background that I have not checked.
Any ideas? Ta
