Cortana & Start Menu stopped working - Windows 10

Has anyone got this error in Windows 10? I’m using Avast Pro 2015 (10.4.2233) I got this error and was automatically logged out. After logging in my laptop got very slow.

And what makes you believe this has anything to do with avast ?

I googled the error and several people have uninstalled their copies of Avast and said Cortana & Start Menu were working again. I’m not ready to uninstall Avast Pro yet. The search box is black and I can’t type anything. I’m just wondering if other people had the issue.

Check the Windows and avast log files and see if you can find more information.

If it happens again, check taskmanager and see if/what process is using a lot of resources.

Things like this may help to find the cause/solution.

I rebooted the laptop in safe mode and then rebooted back into Windows 10 again. Cortana & the Start Menu seems to be working again. Thanks for the response.

Check the log files, taskmanager and such.
