Sometimes lately when i like um install avast the scrolling on the synaptics touch pad on my acer aspire 5517 stops working but the mouse part works like it should. the mouse on the screen shows the scrolling pointer but doesn’t scroll I use the erecovery to reinstall the driver of the mouse and the scrolling part works again… When i install reinstall avast it does that… Do you guys think it is related to avast or not? the driver version is the latest from the acer support and drivers download site
It could be a driver compatibility issue with Avast Not sure of what to do for testing. You could download the file. Find it, (on your computer.) put it in the virus chest, and than maybe report it as a false positive. In the additional information. Copy and paste EXACTLY what you said above, and click the check box that says, “This program came from a trusted source.” Make sure that you fill out the optional detailed information with what you said above, and than Avast will test that driver in the lab.
If you could find a way to send that file to Acer support, I would copy the information above and do the same thing. Than both companies can work on the compatibility issue with the driver and work on updates for it. In the additional information also include your operating system, the make and model of your computer, Amount of Memory, Installed Browsers, any other security software, and any other pertinent information that may help resolve this conflict.

The acer downloads site is probably out of date with there drivers so i would get the latest from Synaptic themselves a see if that works http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers
These latest drivers have no problems on my systems and i always update from the sites direct for Synaptics Touchpad and Realtek Audio Drivers rather than say "ACER, ASUS, HP " etc
If you are sure it won’t cause problems on laptops i might update the driver to the latest one if i have any more problems in my future here is the details info on the driver on my computer that it said in device manager under mouse.
Edit: Could updating the driver to the one on the Synaptics website like um mess with the default settings of the touchpad thing that acer might set to it I don’t wanna mess up the settings. Also do i just reinstall the new driver over the old one? or do you have to uninstall the old one?
Yes you should have no problems updating, your on the 13 version now so updating over the top with 15 is fine.
My Acer 8920 i updated from version 10 to 15 and all’s good left at default settings and the chirol options are included in the install.
Alright, Also Just like incase it was to cause a problem do you think it would be possible to downgrade from version 15 to version 13 again?
