Dear person!
Around March 15, Microsoft Update installed a lot of new files, Avast installed a new version of the program and Skype updated itself. Since then, Working in Word had become hell. My PC would freeze after ten minutes, every time. Sometimes Word crashed or Windows crashed.
This is what I did or noticed when I tried to find the source of the trouble:
-
System reset to March 15. Problem seemed gone. Then I had a Skype talk, before which Skype updated itself (again). When I answered the first call, my PC crashed, but that was the only time trouble trouble happened. However, the same trouble re-appeared.
-
If Word makes trouble, one would suspect the Microsoft updates, but those were undone. Skype and Avast did redo the updates.
-
As long as I have no Word file(s) open, I have no trouble.
-
I undid Word background save. It made no difference. Using Word still froze my PC after a couple of minutes.
-
Then I disabled Avast and started working in Word. All problems were gone. Does that not prove that Avast creates the problem??
-
Regularly, I have 150 tabs open in Google Chrome and 60 in Firefox at the same time. Could that strain Avast so that I couldn’t deal with Word anymore? I doubt it because I tried Word with Avast and without Chrome and Firefox open and the PC still froze within 10 minutes, repeatedly.

Today, two weeks later, March 29, 2017, I received a new Avast program update. Full of hope I installed it, rebooted and opened up a Word 7 file. Within 10 minutes Word asked understanding for that it crashed and when I clicked that I got the message, my PC crashed. Problem NOT solved.
However, when I write, I typically search the Internet, which I won’t do without protection. So now I can only write in Word with the Internet closed (and pausing Avast). This is not acceptable. Besides, it can’t be that only I have this problem. Where are all the others and where is the solution?!
I’m using Avast for many years and don’t want to change. However, is Avast the source of my trouble? What can I do to find out more and/or solve this?
Thanks.
