Could not start...

After downloading, installing, and activating my Avast renewal, I got the message:
Could not be started - Mail shield, IM shield, P2P shield, File system shield, Web shield, Script shield, Behavior shield, Network shield – Why did I get this message, and what do I need to do? ???

First please verify you have an active subscription, click the maintenance tab then choose subscription. Re-Insert your license file if necessary.

If your subscription is valid and you are still having the issue go to your Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features in Vista/7) and run a repair on your avast installation. This can fix most corruption issues.

Prior to doing an Avast Repair, make sure you reboot your machine after installing. If you still have the problem, then try the Repair:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.
