i couldn’t shut down xp last night after three tries so i hit on/off button and closed. i ran a thourough scan all morning and found the following which i can’t delete/chest. what is this file. could i have a virus/worm?

Maybe you should run
chkdsk /R
and schedule a full scan on next boot.

thanks for ur help. just out of curiosity i ran online housecall. it said i had 110 infections. i thought this rather strange and thought that perhaps they just want one to buy the full version. so i ran a boot avast as u first suggested and found nothing. then i ran super antispyware and found a few cookies then obsessively i ran malwarebytes it found two problems. now having worn out my disk i think i’m clean. thanks.
