Couldn't start avast mail shield

I’ve been using avast free edition for the last 6 years. A couple of days ago; I wanted to trial vipre antivirus. After installation vipre wouldn’t start, so I had to uninstall it. I reinstalled avast again and the mail shield wouldn’t start. Every time I open outlook it would start. After I have closed outlook the service would stop. I tried reinstalling avast three times. I also tried uninstalling it using the avast removal tool in the safe mode.

Here is my configuration,

  • Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit

  • Avast Free 5.0.507

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sunbelt/Vipre removal tool or Manual Vipre removal instructions

Only repair/reinstall Avast after you’ve completed the above. Clearly the uninstall didn’t go well.

Thank you!! I followed your instructions but I was not able to fix the problem. So I have formatted my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows xp. Vista has always caused problems.
