I am interested if anyone here uses these, which they recommend and why. I’d prefer something a little simpler than CPUCooL altho’ it’s sometimes a good thing to be to be forced from one’s comfort zone and learn new skills.
I like SpeedFan because it is free, small and customizable to the way I like and not bloated like Mother Board Monitor: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
I also use SpeedFan version 4.3 and I have a Core2Duo, one of the new 45nm E8300 ones and it appears to a) recognise the CPU correctly and it is showing the Temps for both cores. Is there reason why you feel those with core2due need to use RealTemp ?
Calibration is not necessary unless you want it dead precise. Reason for using RealTemp on C2D processors is because all other programs use wrong TjMax value, which is required to properly calculate the temperature delta.
The reason I’m interested is the slightly modified A8N-E Asus motherboard sent up a boot screen message:
“Chip Fan Fail”. The fan had indeed been noisy but further Googling informed me the fans were cheap and nasty and I was lucky mine had lasted so long. Asus had replaced many under warranty. DH replaced the cheap fan with a really flash one ( G-Power GH-PDU21-SC) but now I’m curious as to its performance.
I just downloaded SpeedFan 4.3, but am wondering how computer literate I have to be to install and use it. Can I really do some damage to my laptop if I fool around with fan settings? I know how important it is to not have my laptop run too hot.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, Intel Core2 Duo T5550@1.82GHz, 4 GB RAM, 32 bit, Sp 1, Vista Home Premium.
