CPU usage and avast!

I’m really upset with ashServ.exe CPU usage. I described the problem bellow, using Vlk’s instructions. In few words, after 1-2 hours of computer inactivity, ashServ.exe colapses and start using all CPU usage…
Only hard reset will bring me the computer again…
Each day on lauch time :frowning:

I need a FTP site to upload the dump file and pray to get rid of this extremely boring trouble of each day… >:(

  1. I’ve downloaded the MS debugger
    (http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols/debuggers/dbg_x86_6.2.13.1.exe).
  2. Install it with default settings.
  3. Tryed to simulate the problem, i.e., wait for 1-2 hours of computer inactivity.
Start browsing and trying to ‘force’ the use of the brandwidth.
  4. ashServ.exe starts to freeze, i.e., using all CPU available, well, in fact, up to 90%)
  5. Disable the Standard Shield, otherwise the whole computer will fail, colapse.
  6. Start the debugger. When started, hit F6 and in the process list, select “ashServ.exe”.
  7. In the Command window with a command prompt line at the bottom, type the following:
    .symfix
This will instruct the debugger to use the Microsoft debugging symbol server.
This command should be accepted by the debugger with a message similar to this:
No downstream store given, using etc. etc…
    Symbol search path is: SRV**http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
  8. Tell the debugger to dump the process to a file with the .dump command:
    .dump /ma C:\avast.dmp
This command take a lot of time to complete as the CPU usage is broked down by ashServ.exe.
But it also depends on the speed of the Internet connection, as it will donwloade the symbols
    from the Microsoft site.
  9. The debugger just won’t tell when the process is finished.
The best way to find out is to type some garbage to the command prompt and see whether
it’s responding or not. If it’s responding, i.e. coplaining about invalid command or something
like that, the previous command has already completed and we’re ready to go.
  10. After that, shut everything down (both the debugger and avast).
  11. Make a *.zip file with C:\avast.dmp file and upload to some HTTP/FTP site.

OK so now you have the dump and can upload it?

I don’t know if the dump is useful as, at the time I get it, or better, the only time I can get the dump avast! does not seem to be stressing the system. Anyway, pk send me by IM the details to connect a FTP site of him but I couldn’t connect.

Have you space into avast site for it? 8)

Technical, try it now…

Wow!!! I’m uploading first your files (the jar ones)
After that I’ll try the 20Mb of the dump
Sunday bloody Sunday :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not being able to upload .gif files here…
Although, I can upload in Maxthon forums.
The problem is posted there: http://forum.maxthon.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=9704&st=0&p=60693&

So have you uploaded the dump to pk’s ftp server?

he’s still uploading… 5-10kb/s

:-[

Don’t give up ;D
89% done 8)
Average now 4,7 kbps

Finished 8)

not exactly, i sent you an email

Are you joking? :stuck_out_tongue:
The only possibility now I think is splitting the file into small pieces… Can we try?

I’m already trying…
But I suppose you can go to sleep because it’s late…

hehe, 11pm is not late (wintertime!) ;D
keep uploading…

Thanks… Your patience makes me ashamed :-[ :-[
Is there any possibility of the dump file is corrupt and worth nothing?

Situation now: 5/12 files of 1,423 Mb each

better upload again, or split the archive in small ones + use WinSFV tool to generate crc values for those files.

Did you post wrongly?
I’m doing this and test the split/join the archive many times… it’s working here!

Did you get it? Work? 8)

yes, extracted and sent to vlk
thanks
