CPU usage pics and no web anymore

Hi

I turned off my computer last Thursday for a long week-end (my computer is up 24/24 7/7)
Today I restarted it. After a few minutes without doing anything, it rebooted (just mentionning that in case it’s a cause or symptom of what I’m about to describe)
After the reboot, I had no web access. But no problem to chat on MSN, no problem to connect to skype, Catalyst Control Manager also notified me of an update.
I started a virtual machine and had no problem.
I also noticed regular CPU pics every 3 or 4 seconds. I shut down every apps but the problem was still here. I then disabled Avast and everything was OK : web acces, no CPU pic, etc…

I tried to update it, but it tells me it is up-to-date. I checked in the forum, but found nothing matching my problem. Any idea ? Any known problem here ?

UPDATE : new symptom. I Tried to manually scan a 800 kb file. Avast could not scan it at all, it just kept trying until I canceled scan.

Perhaps :

  • Download the latest Avast program and updates from Avast website.
  • Disconnect your computer from the internet.
  • Completely uninstall Avast.
  • Run a registry cleaner ( CCleaner or similar tool ) to clean up your registry.
  • Reinstall Avast. Don’t forget to insert your registration code.
  • Install the update file.
